Menorah Manor staff and volunteers will be lighting candles with our residents each night of Chanukah this year between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. See below for the nightly schedule beginning on December 20 and ending on December 27.
You’re in the hospital after a hip replacement. The physician has just informed you that you need to continue your care at a nursing facility. How will the nursing facility know about the special care you need after hip replacement, or your special diet?
Dysphagia is a word that sounds ominous. But all it means is difficulty swallowing. The problem could be minor or it could be so serious that it is life threatening. As mother always said, “If you don’t chew properly, it will go down the wrong way.” That is exactly what happens, and “the wrong way” is into your lungs. It doesn’t take much imagination to see that this could cause pneumonia.
Every month the various department heads and myself choose a volunteer who exemplifies the mission of Menorah Manor’s community service program, which is to enhance the lives of our residents through volunteer activities. Leslie “Les” Jones was our July volunteer of the month. This is his story.

It is rare to find a pulmonary therapy program that is outside of a hospital setting in the Tampa Bay area. The Renew You program offers a setting in which recently discharged cardiac and pulmonary patients can benefit from a luxury, hotel-style environment as well as 24-hour care allowing he or she to get home as quickly and comfortably as possible.
