Opportunities to volunteer and contribute to the well-being of our seniors are endless at Menorah Manor. Whether you are working in the gift shop, conducting an intellectual discussion group, leading an exercise group, reading to a resident, assisting residents with shopping, pet therapy, or just coming by and spending quality one-on-one time, your life can be enriched by becoming a volunteer.
Volunteering for a community service organization may help prolong your life!
Researchers at the University of Michigan recently reported that retired people who volunteered just 40 hours a year tended to live longer, compared to those who never did community service.
A Cornell University study of 762 retired people, found that volunteers were happier than non volunteers and had more energy and a greater sense of control over their lives.
A Harvard study showed that older people involved in productive activities, including volunteering, improved their chances of living a long life, as much as those who engaged in physical fitness activities.
So take the first step in leading a happier, healthier life… VOLUNTEER!
